Insurance & Liability

Our vehicles come with comprehensive insurance coverage for accident damage or loss of contents (excluding personal belongings).                                                            In the event of damage or loss, the hirer is liable up to the applicable excess/deductible. This includes costs related to:

  • Damage to third-party property
  • Damage to the rental vehicle (including single-vehicle accidents)
  • Windscreen and tyre damage
  • Overhead and underbody damage
  • Towing and recovery
  • Theft, fire, break-ins, or vandalism

Please note: The liability applies per claim, not per rental period. If Bond Waiver Cover has been purchased, an administration fee of $150 will be charged per claim. Without Bond Waiver, the administration fee is $450 per claim.

Bond & Excess

Credit Card Bond (Security Deposit)
When collecting your vehicle, Tui Campers takes an imprint of your credit card as a bond for your insurance excess. This imprint covers your liability for any single accident during the hire period. Also covers additional charges, including:

  • Fuel top-up
  • Toilet emptying (if returned full)
  • Traffic or parking infringements
  • Losses or damage to equipment

Important: The credit card must belong to the main hirer, unless prior arrangements have been approved. No funds are deducted at pick-up — we simply have the credit card on file for potential charges in the event of damage or other costs. If no credit card is available, a cash bond will be held for 28 days after the rental ends.

Using Debit Cards - If you use a debit card, it is treated as cash, and the full excess amount will be charged to your card. If you purchase the Flying Free reduction option, only a signed imprint will be required — no funds will be deducted

Bond Waiver / Excess Reduction Insurance (BWI)

To reduce your liability in the event of damage, Tui Campers offers two optional Excess Reduction Options.

Reduction Option: On The Wing

  • Daily Cost: $40
  • Under 25s: $45
  • Excess Reduced To: $3,000
  • Security Requirement: Credit card imprint only
  • Maximum Charge: Capped at 50 days

Deluxe Sleepervan, Trailfinder 2/3 & Trailfinder 4+1

  • Daily Cost: $30
  • Under 25s: $35
  • Excess Reduced To: $2,500
  • Security Requirement: Credit card imprint only
  • Maximum Charge: Capped at 50 days

Important Notes:

  • Excess reduction is completely optional and can be decided upon collection of your vehicle.
  • Flying Free cover applies to one incident only. After that, the standard excess applies again unless further cover is purchased.
  • Debit card users must pay the full excess upfront, unless Flying Free is selected — in which case, only a signed imprint is required.
  • The liability is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time the accident report is completed, not at the completion of the rental.
  • Where a third party is involved the vehicle security deposit will be refunded only if Tui Campers is successful in recovering the cost of the damages from the third party.
  • Please note that third-party claims can take many months to resolve.

Tui Campers strongly recommends our customers to take the bond waiver insurance to minimise excess exposure and travel with peace of mind.

Inclusions

Reduction Option Flying Free cover includes the following extras:
  • Free hire of the following accessories which are;
    • GPS (on request)
    • Baby seat and/or child booster seat (on request)
    • Picnic Table and Chairs (on request, one chair for each person travelling)
    • Snow Chains (on request)
  • Zero excess (subject to exclusions below)
  • One windscreen replacement, multiple windscreen chip repairs and two tyre replacements 
  • Pre-purchased LPG bottle
  • Road Tolls
  • Lost/damaged key replacement costs
  • Toilet chemical Starter Kit

Exclusions

Bond waiver does not cover:
  • Any water related damage, which includes but is not limited to:
    a) Any vehicle submersion.
    b) Creek or river crossing.
    c) Driving through low plain flooded areas.
    d) Beach driving.
  • Personal belongings: We recommend the hirer does not leave valuables in the vehicle.
  • The contents of the vehicle supplied by us (including but not limited to: cooker, bedding, cutlery, CD/MP3 player, table, chairs, tents, power cords, GPS and WIFI units) or any other items hired from us
  • The terms of the rental agreement are breached. The hirer will be responsible for the total cost of any damage. This will also include any damage caused by wilful misconduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet or roof of the vehicle) and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • The incorrect use of fuel (fuel being diesel or petrol). The hirer will be responsible for any associated cost.
  • The cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle which has become bogged.
  • The cost to replace keys, which have become lost, or retrieval of keys, which have been locked in a vehicle. (included in Reduction Option Flying Free)
  • Driving on restricted roads.
  • Damage is caused to the vehicle by the use of snow chains
  • Damage is caused due to fuel being placed in the water tank

Note: If you breach any part of our Terms and Conditions, your insurance waiver will become void, and you will be responsible for all related costs, including (but not limited to) vehicle damage, third-party claims, and recovery expenses.

Windscreen/Tyre Insurance (WTI)

This option can be purchase by paying an additional $9 per day to provide protection for damage to the front windscreen and tyres.  Included is two tyre replacements, multiple tyre punctures, one windscreen and multiple windscreen chips.

Number of Claims:

Each insurance policy can only have one individual claim made by the hirer. The policy is cancelled after each accident and all payments are forfeited. Tui Campers reserves the right to agree to a renewal of any insurance policy or to cancel the hire at the hirers cost. 

Breach of Terms & Conditions
If you breach any part of our Terms and Conditions, your insurance waiver will become void, and you will be fully responsible for all related costs, including (but not limited to) vehicle damage, third-party claims, and recovery expenses.
